The La Tour Hospital in Geneva, integrates the list of hospitals who advocate the “smarter medicine”, an anglicism untranslatable designating a medicine that is sustainable, more efficient in fighting against the surmédicalisation and inappropriate acts. In French-speaking Switzerland, it is the first private institution to do so. So far, these are mostly public hospitals, in Ticino, Zurich, Geneva and Lausanne, which had entered into a partnership with the umbrella association “Smarter Medicine – Choosing Wisely Switzerland”.
Was the result of a movement born in the United States, the latter was born in Berne in 2017 under the impetus of the swiss Academy of medical sciences. Among its founding members, medical organizations, specialized and professional, but also associations that represent the interests of patients and consumers. His goal: to raise public awareness of the fact that in medicine, “less is sometimes better”.
