For the past few months, the Figeac hospital center has been at the heart of a major modernization project. Under the leadership of its dynamic director Raphaël Lagarde, the establishment is engaged in an ambitious transformation which is accompanied by new recruitments of doctors.

In addition to the brand new extension which is due to open in a few weeks, the hospital, which was suffering from an aging image, is getting a makeover by presenting a new logo and strengthening its communication. The arrival of a new practitioner is now an opportunity that the director does not miss to make people talk about his establishment. “We are extremely happy to welcome Dr Awada, who has been working in Figeac since April 15,” Raphaël Lagarde underlined on Monday, presenting the new neurologist at the hospital.

An unprecedented recruitment for the establishment which has never had such a specialist in its workforce. “This is the first time that the hospital has had a neurologist. There was Dr Jardillier in Figeac who was living in town. It is a specialty that is difficult to acquire in our territories ”. Doctor Adnan Awada, who has dual French and Lebanese nationality, will provide neurology consultations two days a week and develop a clinical neurophysiology service, that is to say electroencephalography and electromyography. “The electroencephalography machine was delivered last week and the electromyography machine is well on the way to acquisition.” The recently announced MRI installation project will open an optimal neurology service in the new hospital premises. Recruitment of a trained nurse is underway.

At the age of 70, Dr Adnan Awada has a long career that he wishes to build on in the Lot. “I love the Lot where I came for the first time in 1979. It was a shock of greenery for me. My wife is from Loubressac and we have a house near Prudhomat ”confides the practitioner. Former intern at the Salpêtrière hospital in Paris, he mainly practiced in Lebanon where he was head of department at the Hôtel-Dieu in Beirut and professor of neurology at the faculty of medicine. He was also president of the Lebanese Society of Neurology. “Unfortunately things have deteriorated in Lebanon in several areas, we decided to retire here. It gives me satisfaction to work a little for the Figeac hospital where there is no neurologist. It’s a good opportunity for the hospital and for me ”.
