Born from a collaboration between the Providence Catholic School Board (Csc), the City of Windsor and Collège Boréal, a first education lab class was inaugurated at Sainte-Thérèse school on November 2.
The lab class consists of a room which will be used by students of the early childhood educator program at Collège Boréal as well as children from the Franco-Sol daycare at Sainte-Thérèse school, those from classes at kindergarten and kindergarten and before and after school Program participants.
Among the guests at the inauguration were the Commissioner of Health and Social Services, Andrew Daher, the Director of Children’s Services, Dawn Bosco, the regional head of Collège Boréal, Simon Goulet, the Director of postsecondary education at Collège Boréal, Jessica Tracey, the general director of Franco-Sol, Luci Cutrone, the director of Early Childhood Services at Csc Providence, Estelle Tonietto, the director of Sainte-Thérèse school Mélanie Moir and her assistant Luaba Mukendi.
“It is with a spirit of collaboration and common vision that we had the honor of working with our colleagues to create a laboratory class,” said the director of Sainte-Thérèse.
“This environment will allow students to put their learning into practice in line with the way children learn, through authentic and caring experiences and relationships.
“This space will benefit not only students, but also teachers and educators as well as the Franco-Sol daycare. There is no limit to the diverse ways space can benefit the community. »
Second-year students from Boréal’s Childhood Education program were also present. They were visiting the laboratory as part of their summary and internship preparation course, taught by Catherine Gauthrie.
One of them, Dieudonné Nguoup, is delighted that this room allows them “to put into practice all the theories learned in class and to have authentic experiences with the children”. “This will help us improve and thus, after receiving our diploma, we will be an asset within the French-speaking community,” he adds.
This investment will train more qualified staff in the field of childcare and improve learning for both future educators and children.
“This space will allow students to directly put into practice what they learn during their courses, whether with children, class organization or activity planning,” concludes Rachelle Morissette, educational advisor. of early childhood at Csc Providence
“We want to maximize this space as much as possible. For this, we only use the most natural materials or colors possible in order to obtain a quality space. Our wish would be that all schools and daycare services in the region could have such a space. »
