Seven people, members of a family who were rescued after the earthquake in Kahramanmaras, died in a fire in the central city of Konya in Turkey after the roof of a house collapsed.
The fire broke out in the early hours of Friday in a house where two Syrian families were staying, one of whom was visiting. The fire was caused by a wood and coal stove that tipped over. As a result of the storm, the roof collapses and people are overwhelmed. Only one family managed to escape. Police, fire and emergency teams were dispatched to the scene.
After the fire was extinguished, seven bodies of the same family – the mother, father and five children – were found among the wreckage.
The family arrived from the Nurdag district in Gaziantep, which was badly affected by the earthquakes that claimed more than 40,000 lives and caused massive destruction in Turkey and northern Syria.
It was also reported that the mother, father and children were disabled and had been brought to Konya by their relatives after the earthquake.
