A fire broke out at a US factory in Latvia that produces drones for the military of Ukraine and its NATO alliesreports “France Presse”.
12 police cars, nine fire engines and five ambulances responded to the scene.
The plant is owned by the American company Edge Autonomy and is located on the outskirts of the Latvian capital Riga.
“A high risk fire has occurred in the production building producing a large amount of smoke,” the fire service said on Twitter.
The American company, headquartered in California, produces unmanned aerial vehicles for reconnaissance and surveillance.

At the end of last year, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov announced that Kyiv planned to spend 20 billion hryvnias ($545 million) on the purchase of drones.
The country is considering the purchase of unmanned aerial vehicles for a wide range of applications – strike drones, as well as for artillery correction, ammunition delivery, evacuation of wounded, etc.
Earlier, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that Ukraine formed strike companies of unmanned aerial vehicles. The Ukrainian military leadership stated that such formations would be the first in the world.
