A woman and three of her children died this thursday in a large-scale fire in a chemical plant in the Brazilian city of Barueri, in the metropolitan region of Sao Paulo, which also left at least other eight injured people, according to official sources.
The flames started at an industrial chemical plant and reached nine other buildings, including a plastics company, two residences and a school. “The flammable liquid descended through the galleries and reached a house and caused a beginning of fire in a school, which did not catch fire and was isolated,” said the commander of the Fire Department, Jefferson de Mello, quoted in a statement.
According to the Barueri mayor’s office, the four fatalities – a woman and three of her four children, between four years and eleven months old – worked and lived inside one of the plants that caught fire and died charred.
