NEW YORK – A second-alarm fire broke out at a five-story apartment building in the Bronx on Tuesday, leaving nine people injured, according to the New York City Fire Department.
Flames broke out around 5:05 pm at 2552 University Avenue between West 192nd Street and West 190th Street in the University Heights neighborhood. The fire was reported on the second floor, where they found a large fire.
Due to the fire, nine people on the scene received medical attention for smoke inhalation. Officials said eight people were transported to local hospitals and one woman remains in critical condition.
All injuries were caused by smoke inhalation, an official confirmed.
The Red Cross arrived at the site to help those affected by the afternoon flames.
The cause of the incident has not yet been determined by the fire department. An investigation is ongoing.
