The Greek authorities have introduced large fines for sleeping in a car outside the designated areas, reports Nova TV. Sanctions start at 300 euros and go up to 3,000 euros.
According to Greek law, overnight driving is prohibited in public places, beaches, archaeological sites and parking lots not specifically designated for this purpose.
It is forbidden to spend the night in these places, even in a camper or caravan. It is mandatory for tourists to find one of the rest areas that have been created for the purpose of spending the night.
The fine is imposed by the police on the spot and starts at 300 euros.
If the offender refuses to pay for various reasons, he can be detained and prosecuted. The end result could be a fine of €3,000.
