The Law on Regulating Clinical Medical Research, which was recently ratified by the President of the Republic, defined the penalties that are imposed on the President’s researcher and sponsor of the study in case of violating the provisions contained in this law. Article 27 stipulates that each of the principal investigator and the study sponsor shall be punished with imprisonment and a fine of not less than fifty thousand pounds and not exceeding five hundred thousand pounds.
Among the provisions of Articles 18 and 20 of this law, which specify the conditions that the medical sponsor must adhere to, and the obligations of the principal investigator.
Article 28 also stipulated that each of the principal investigator and the sponsor of the research be punished with a fine of not less than ten thousand pounds and not more than fifty thousand pounds, in case of non-commitment to provide the necessary medical care to any of the respondents during and after the medical research.
If the occurrence of the crime referred to in the previous paragraph has side effects on the respondent, then the minimum and maximum limits established in the previous paragraph are doubled.
If this results in serious side effects on the respondent, then the penalty is detention, and a fine that is not less than one hundred thousand pounds and not more than five hundred thousand pounds, or one of these two penalties, and the penalties multiply according to the number of victims.
