RC Lens: Gaëtan Robail is preparing to no longer return to the RCL
Not fitting into the plans of the RC Lens coach, Gaetan Robail has been on loan to Valenciennes FC since January 2021, until June 2022. His loan even comes with a purchase option. Hearing the Ligue 2 club’s decision, the left winger anticipated the question of his future at Racing Club. “For the moment, I am here (in Valenciennes) and I am concentrating on what I have to do. Afterwards, I don’t know, we’ll see what the RCL decides to do, “he told The Voice of Sports first, before being more specific about its future.
“Inevitably, in the back of my mind, I have the possibility of not returning to RC Lens next season,” said Gaëtan Robail. “That (his loan, editor’s note) disappointed me at first, now I tell myself that I’m working for myself, because I don’t know what will happen at the end of the season”, he added, while leaving a small open window: “afterwards, it may change, I don’t know”. Note that his contract at Lens is valid until June 2023.
On-loan striker not in Haise’s plans
Arrived at RC Lens in June 2019 under the orders of Philippe Montanier, Gaëtan Robail was in the Sang et Or team which won the promotion to Ligue 1 at the end of the 2019-2020 season. Better, he had largely contributed to the return of the northern club in the elite, by scoring 7 goals and delivering 4 assists, in 24 games played in Ligue 2. Successor of Montanier, Franck Haise does not count on Gaëtan Robail and the loaned to EA Guingamp (L2) last season. The 28-year-old’s loan to VAFC is therefore his second in a row since the return of the Lensois to L1.
