Deutsche Bahn is represented on “Rail Day” with around 80 events in almost all federal states and larger cities, from Hamburg to Munich and from Dortmund to Leipzig. The program includes major station festivals, for example in Würzburg (Bavaria), where the renovated, barrier-free central station is officially opened.
For the first time this year, the federal government, states, municipalities, businesses and associations are jointly proclaiming “Rail Day” to get even more people excited about rail travel.
Richard Lutz, CEO of Deutsche Bahn AG: “We will only achieve our climate goals by rail. Therefore, the time has come for the rails to have their day of honor too. On the first “Rail Day”, together with the entire industry, we will show how the railway system works and how much passion railway workers nationwide are committed to a climate-friendly railway”.
Highlights also include touring the construction site of the monumental Elstertal bridge near Plauen (Saxony), visiting the historic Wernerwerk and Siemensstadt train stations on Berlin’s Siemensbahn, which will be reactivated, and exploring the underworld of the future Berlin S-Bahn (S 21/City-S-Rail).
Furthermore, train enthusiasts can climb the vault of the new roof of the Berlin Ostbahnhof hall or take a look at the ICE plants in Leipzig, Frankfurt-Griesheim and Dortmund-Spähenfelde.

Also, there is a great contest with great surprise prizes on DB channels for ‘Rail Day’.
The “Rail Day” will open on September 15 at 19:00 in vehicle hall 2 of the DB Museum Nuremberg. There, on September 17, visitors can relive the history of the railway during a ride on the legendary “Adler”, a replica of Germany’s first steam locomotive.
The Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport, DB, other railway companies, transport associations and NGOs, associations, clubs and other institutions are all involved in the “Rail Day” on 16 and 17 September. The event is coordinated by “Allianz pro Schiene”.
