A ferry departs between Istanbul and Burgas

From October 11, 2024, the Turkish shipping company IDO will launch a ferry connection with modern catamarans between Istanbul and Burgas. It will be especially for tourists who are in Turkey and who want to come on a sea trip to Bulgaria for a day or two, said TravelNews, citing Maria Belkoleva, the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Port of Burgas EAD.

The first 200 guests will be mostly Americans, Canadians, British and Germans. They will go to Burgas, Nessebar and Sozopol.

“The idea is that, starting next year, the big tour companies that go to Istanbul will include Burgas and the region as one-day trips. For this purpose, an IDO catamaran will be used“, said Belkoleva, saying that the “Port of Burgas” is looking for all kinds of options for increasing ships and goods from the country and to the country.

The big goal is to return flights to Bulgaria.

“For now, the major international cruise lines are including Bulgaria in their programs for 2026, hoping that the war in Ukraine will have ended by then. They have already traveled most of the routes in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean, and are now looking for new and interesting places for cruises,” explained Belkoleva, adding that there is also interest from tourists from Australia and Europe.

A partner of the Turkish company IDO in our country is the Bulgarian Sea Link Shipping Ltd. By the end of the year, 6 trips will be made between Istanbul and Burgas, announced the manager of the company, Panayot Zolumov. It is hoped that if the ferry line is successful in 2025, there will be significant growth and more passengers and the line will eventually be a regular service between the two cities. Zolumov also expects that many Turkish tourists with Schengen visas will come this way. “I hope that the Bulgarians will also be interested in catamaran trips to Istanbul, especially during the summer season”, he sends.

The regional structure of the BCCC in Burgas is also working on the project with the president Georgi Dereliev, as well as Bulgarian tourists.
