“What we agreed with the cabinet yesterday was in words. We expect today to receive the draft agreement with the government, to discuss it at operational councils and for it to be approved and signed by us on Monday at the latest”, Simeon Karakolev, co-chairman of the National Sheep and Goat Breeding Association and a member of the management, announced to bTV of the Bulgarian Agrarian Chamber.
Yesterday, farmers announced that they were ending the effective protests that blocked key roads in the country for four days. This happened after a meeting of their representatives in the Council of Ministers with Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov and Minister of Agriculture Kiril Vatev.
“It was important to us that farmers receive the same support they received in 2022-2023. In a series of meetings, we clearly and categorically stated our demands from the beginning and said that we will not budge on them. They are divided into three groups: the short-term financial goals for all sectors, excluding grain production, to maintain the rates that were to support farmers 2022-2023; for the “Grain production” sector – up to 3,000 decares to receive unconditionally BGN 20 per decare,” explained Karakolev.
“We put our demands three weeks ago and after a round of negotiations we sought and argued our demands and yesterday everything we asked for was accepted,” he added.
