A Farewell to an Inspirational Teacher: Remembering Gina Pellettiere’s Impact on Farmingdale High School

“She made my days better.” That is one of the expressions that the students of Farmingdale High School dedicated to teacher Gina Pellettiere, at her funeral. The woman died on September 21, in the bus accident that overturned 50 feet into the void in Orange County, New York.

Our colleague Joaquín Torres, from Univision 41, attended the final goodbye at the Nuestra Señora de Lourdes church, in Massapequa Park.

Gina Pellettiere, 43, was director of the institution’s musical band. That day of the accident, she was accompanying students to a camp in Pennsylvania.

“She made my days better and I’m sure she did with the other students,” said another student, Richie Jaudon, who was inspired to enter the world of music.

Burial was at Parklawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

The New York Police are still investigating the causes that led to the bus accident

Beatriz Ferrari, a 77-year-old retired teacher, is the other fatality in the accident. Her remains were laid to rest on Wednesday.

The accident left a large number of students injured, some with minor injuries and others who were in critical condition for several days. One of them recounted what he experienced and detailed: “I saw blood everywhere.”
