A famous foreign actress announces that she has thyroid disease

The actress Daisy Ridley, who played the character of Rey in the latest installment of the “Star Wars” series, announced that she suffers from a thyroid disease that causes her extreme fatigue and weight loss.

The 32-year-old American star, in an interview with the magazine Women’s Health published on Tuesday, said that she suffers from Graves disease.

She said, “This is the first time I have spoken about the subject,” noting that her diagnosis with the disease dates back to September 2023.

Her symptoms included an accelerated heartbeat, weight loss, fatigue, and tremors in the hands, according to the magazine.

The actress, who has completed the filming of the soon-to-be-released film “Magpie”, in which she plays a mother who has problems in her marital relationship, did not understand at first that she was sick.

She explained, “I thought I had recently finished a very stressful career, which is probably why I feel tired.”

Graves’ disease is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism and affects women more than men, according to the European Thyroid Association.

Other people, such as rapper Missy Elliott and former First Lady of the United States Barbara Bush, have suffered from it.

“With the various statistics regarding undiagnosed or underdiagnosed women, we have to agree to admit that we are indeed not well,” Ridley said, adding, “It is normal to feel that we are not us well “

The “Star Wars” star, who follows a mostly vegetarian diet, indicated that she started a gluten-free diet since her diagnosis.

“I’m not very strict about this, but reducing the amount of gluten makes me feel better,” she said.
