The Story of a Homecoming Family Walking from Gombong to Bandung

A family from Gombong Jawa Tengah, is desperate to go home on foot to Soreang, Bandung Regency. After walking for 6 days, the family carrying two children arrived in Ciamis, Friday (7/5/2021).

When found detikcom around Jalan Ahmad Yani, Dani (39), and his wife, Masitoh Ainun Lubis (36), brought their two children Manta 3 years and Hanum 1.5 years. They are seen talking to a man who offers them a ride.

Dani admitted that he left Gombong on Sunday afternoon. Armed with a black backpack and Rp. 120 thousand, he was determined to bring his wife and child back to his village because he no longer had a job. Previously he worked at a convection company and now has quit.

“There is no more work there, I have nothing. So I decided to go back to Soreang. Not going there again, I want to stay in Soreang,” said Dani.

On his way, Dani and his family used to rest at gas stations or mosques along the road. He walks a day that can reach 25-30 kilometers. Stop at night to rest and continue the journey after dawn.

“Alhamdulillah, as long as the trip went smoothly, there were no obstacles. There were also many good people who provided supplies and food while on the road,” he said.

Dani admitted that he was forced to walk because he did not have the money to take public transportation. Moreover, at this time the transportation was stopped because of the ban on going home.

“The wages from the convection work are enough to eat and pay for rent. I walked home to Bandung with only Rp. 120 thousand to buy food and drink. But Alhamdulillah, on the way there is sustenance for the children, many give,” he said.

Dani also admitted that he did not ask the government for help because of his trauma. He has the experience of the previous year walking back to his hometown but this is considered a mode. Even now, he will avoid when there are security officers going home.

“I’m afraid to be called a mode, so it’s natural to walk all the way to Soreang,” he said.

If there are no obstacles, Dani estimates that he will arrive at Soreang Bandung on the second day of Eid.
