a family of disabled Albanian refugees treated in France refuses to be returned to Albania

It was on the tarmac at Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport that the family refused to board a plane bound for Albania. The mother, suffering from cancer, and the blind father, applied for asylum for health reasons. The mother should be received at the Prefecture this Friday, October 1.

The facts happened on Tuesday, September 28 in Dijon. It was seven in the morning when a family of Albanians who had lived in France for three years was arrested at the premises of the “preparatory arrangements for return”, the center where she lives, rue du Petit Bernard in Dijon.

The family was threatened by an OQTF

The parents and their ten-year-old child, educated in CM2, were then brought by the police to Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport “in view of police custody and imminent deportation to Albania” explains the Dijon human rights league, which says it is shocked by this procedure. At the airport, the family refuses to board.

Rejected from asylum for the first time, this family was under an OQTF, an obligation to leave French territory. But due to significant health problems (the mother suffers from cancer for which she is followed at the Leclerc center in Dijon), a request for a residence permit for “health reasons” was made.

Two disabled parents

To justify their refusal to board the plane, the couple put forward this asylum request. In addition to her illness, for which a treatment protocol is planned until 2024, the mother is visually impaired. Her blind husband also had an arm amputated.

Also on Tuesday, September 28, in Dijon, members of refugee support associations met in front of the Prefecture. A delegation was received by the secretary general of the Prefecture. He informed them that a decision on the fate of the family on French soil would be given within eight days. The couple and their son were therefore released by the authorities at the airport.

An appointment scheduled this Friday

This Friday 1is October, the mother of the family is summoned to the Prefecture of Dijon.
