The owner of the house, Esteban Duarte, told Underlined that the fire started in the bedroom and it was one of his sons who alerted him to the situation.
When he entered the room the bed was burning, he managed to pull the mattress out, but when the flames returned they had taken over the bunk beds, the wardrobe and everything else.
With a hose he tried to put out the fire, but could do nothing to save the belongings of the family, made up of the married couple and three teenage children.
The cause of the fire was a short circuit, caused by a cell phone charger, in the house located on Calle Banda Oriental and Dionisio Díaz.
At the time of the fire, the couple and the youngest of their children were in the house. The man and the woman were intoxicated. She, who is in treatment because she is fighting breast cancer, fainted and had to be treated in an emergency.
Now, the family asks for help to recondition their home. They need clothing, food, furniture, appliances, and building materials to make the home habitable.
