A family in Varna lived with the body of a dead child for a month

The prosecutor’s office with terrifying revelations about a tragedy, happened in 2021 in the Varna district “Vladislav Varnenchik”. Then, after a fire in an apartment, the bodies of two children were found.

The prosecution has now revealed that the older child had died a month earlier, but the family continued to live with the girl’s body without informing the authorities.

The man and woman accused of the fire spent six months in custody before being released in April 2022 after reaching the maximum prison term. Initially, they were charged with arson, but the charge was later amended.

The fire was found to have started from a candle placed next to a curtain. They are accused of causing the accident by negligence. A one-year-old child, to whom the woman is the mother, died in the fire.

The prosecutor’s office has now announced that the older 4-year-old child died a month before the fire.

“Unfortunately, we have not been able to establish the cause of death, despite the best efforts of the specialists. There were no signs of violence on the body. The explanations are a little strange, but at the end of the day they have such a legal opportunity to defend themselves as they see fit for good. According to the birth father of this child, he did not understand that he had died,” explained Varna district prosecutor Krasimir Konov.

“According to the woman with whom he lived on a conjugal basis, she simply did not tell him out of fear. Child benefits were received by the deceased child’s birth mother, who was not in that home and had no relationship with either of them. So, I see no motive to hide the child for this purpose,” he added.

If convicted, the man and woman face up to five years in prison. The investigation is now over. Although the two are at large, the prosecutor’s office said they made no attempt to flee.
