The Civil Guard has arrested two people in A Coruña as responsible for a clandestine laboratory of false hydroalcoholic gel, without disinfectant power, which they mixed with brandy and sold mainly to health centers and hospitals throughout Spain.
It was the users of these who sounded the alarm, with complaints that warned of the “strong smell of brandy” of the supposed hydrogel. The agents point out that this it was only 25% alcohol, instead of 70% which should contain at least.
More than 6,000 liters distributed
Due to the “urgent need for product” derived from the pandemic, points out the Civil Guard, the detainees, who “offered themselves as chemists with extensive experience,” were able to “place it easily, avoiding any documentary and quality requirement. “In addition, according to the agents, the company” lacked the appropriate authorizations from the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products to manufacture the product. “
In the registry in the poultry shed where they had set up the laboratory – located in Boiro (A Coruña) -, the Civil Guard has found 400 liters of the false hydroalcoholic gel already packed. In addition, they have seized 6,400 liters of the product already distributed in hospitals and medical centers throughout the Spanish geography.
