On the day of German unity, the community working group culture opened the doors of the culture cellar again after a long time. As part of the cultural autumn and in cooperation with the municipal company of the district of Wrzburg, the market town presented an event from the series Kulturbrcken in the district of Wrzburg – cultural enjoyment for people with dementia, relatives and other culture lovers.
The idea behind the project is to offer cultural activities in a protected atmosphere and thus enable dementia sufferers to participate in public, cultural life in line with the concept of inclusion. The Culture Working Group was delighted to host the series of events for the second time and to give the audience another cultural afternoon with positive sensory experiences.
After the organizers had successfully started the series with chansons of the 20th century, performed by Silvia Kirchhof, Achim Hofmann and Carolin Auer in spring 2019, the focus this time was on the positive effects of storytelling on people with dementia. The experienced artists of the Duo Binnaz were hired to create a suitable and varied program as well as the demonstrations in three municipalities in the district. Storyteller Gesine Kleinwchter and dancer Eva Streit (Moona) captivated the audience from the very first second at the premiere in the Zeller Kulturkeller and carried them off into a magical fairytale world.
Everyone in the audience could remember the Rumpelstiltskin well and, to the delight of the guests, it actually took shape in front of their eyes. Moona embodied the fairy tale creatures imaginatively in colorful costumes and interpreted Kleinwchters captivating stories with dance interludes. So she transformed from Rumpelstiltskin, into a lizard, from an oriental belly dancer to a little orphan. Whether with the stories or the dance with silk scarves, the audience experienced a fireworks display of sensory stimuli. They clapped to the music, sank into memories and were happy about funny life wisdom. For example, they learned why you should always pour a few drops of Franconian wine on nice lizards. “This is narration that is lived,” said one enthusiast when Moona danced on the stage at the fairy tale “Die Sterntaler” in a glittery dress and narrator Gesine handed out golden thalers to the guests.
The artists were rewarded with much applause for a successful fairy tale afternoon with lasting impressions. The Zell a. Main would like to thank all the hard-working, voluntary helpers who made it possible for the guests to hold the event and enjoy the culture through their commitment.
