Lokossa, March 17. 2021 (ABP) – The department of Mono, through the intercommunal grouping, will soon have its faecal sludge treatment site, in order to fight against open defecation and to contribute to the sanitation of the declared areas ” end open defecation ”.
The faecal sludge treatment site to be installed in the Mono department, with the financial support of the French NGO, Development Initiative and AFD, informed the executive director of the inter-municipal group “ GI-Mono ” ‘, Romain Agbadja, “will be a first in Benin”. According to him, the only existing site is that of Sèmè which, he says “is totally saturated and can no longer accommodate sludge as it should”.
According to the executive director of GI-Mono, the beneficiary municipalities and communities have no contribution to pay, particularly for the project to install a faecal sludge treatment site. However, he observes, “the populations will pay a price which will be within their reach in order to amortize the expenses related to the offer of the service”. The site to be developed, he specifies, “will be able to collect a given volume of sludge over several years”. According to Romain Agbadja, the service offer is available to everyone and all institutions or families who feel the need to empty their latrine can request sludge suction of whatever nature.
It should be noted that out of six hundred and fifty million (650,000,000) francs as the total cost of carrying out the project, five hundred million (500,000,000) CFA francs have already been mobilized and the available resources, says Romain Agbadja, “allow us to complete the important and essential elements of the project ”.
