Unleashed, the French strikers from Mönchengladbach temporarily lifted the Borussia to the Bundesliga podium by shattering Union Berlin by Urs Fischer 4-1.
Marcus Thuram signed a brace on two assists for Alassane Pléa, also a goal scorer. Florian Neuhaus opened the scoring with a nice goal for M’Gladbach (17th), but it was the performance of the duo Pléa-Thuram that made the difference. First two goals of the same bill, in the 41st and 59th minutes: slightly deep center of Pléa and close conclusion of Thuram.
Then at the end of the match, Pléa rewarded himself by scoring his team’s fourth goal (4-1, 81st), forgotten by the defense six meters in front of the goalkeeper. Sebastian Andersson had reduced the gap to Berlin by deceiving Yann Sommer of the head shortly after the break (2-1, 50th).
Surprised team of the season, Borussia Mönchengladbach has 56 points on his clock. The Rhenish team, which also aligned Nico Elvedi on Sunday, could however quickly give up 3rd place: RB Leipzig (55 points) will take it if it wins or draws Monday at Cologne at the end of the 29th day.
