Todor Barakov, father of one of the dead boys, is preparing a peaceful protest for a fair sentence
A peaceful protest in front of the Plovdiv court took place on June 22 by Todor Barakov from Stamboliyski. Then the case against the driver who caused the death of his only child and another young man started.
“I want to draw public attention to this case because the culprit was intoxicated with marijuana. And such drivers are increasingly behind the wheel and killing people, “said Barakov, who has been in Paris for a long time.
His 16-year-old son lived and studied there before the fatal accident. His name is also Todor. According to his father, he was like all his peers. He loved a lot of sports and trained hard in boxing.

The accident happened 3 days after Toshko arrived in Stamboliyski – on November 11 last year. The same day, the father spoke with his son. “I asked him how he was, where he was. He told me he was in town. He didn’t tell me that he intended to go somewhere, “Barakov said.

The then 18-year-old Marinashki drove at 98 km / h. Todor, Viktor and Georgi were in the back seat, and Nikolai was next to the driver. The tragedy took place after passing the gas station in the village of Kadievo.
Marinashki turned his head back briefly, distracting him, and the car shifted slightly to the left toward the centerline. He tried to straighten it, but turned the steering wheel sharper, causing the back of the car to fall. Although the section was straight, Peter lost control, failed to control the zigzag movements of the BMW, went beyond the contours of the road and the rear right door of the car crashed into a roadside tree.

Three survived – the driver Peter and the two passengers Georgi and Nikolai, who received a moderate bodily injury.
Barakov learned the ominous news of his child’s death from his ex-wife. He says he has been waking up every night since.
“I open my eyes and look at the sky. Whether I am in Paris or elsewhere, my grief is the same and does not go away, “added the harassed father.
On November 13 last year, when he was burying his son, Toshko’s friends told him that on the fateful day they had seen Marinashki smoking marijuana.
The father was surprised by this fact because the field drug test that a police officer from Stamboliiski did on the driver after the accident was negative. While Peter was still in custody, Barakov’s lawyer, Antoaneta Nikolova, requested a blood sample. She was examined at the Military Medical Academy and the result was positive for marijuana.
For this reason, the indictment against Marinashki states that he violated the Traffic Act and, after using drugs, inadvertently caused the deaths of Todor and Viktor.
“Marinashki has a book from May 31, 2019. So far he has not been convicted. The crime for which he is accused envisages a punishment of 3 to 15 years of imprisonment, as well as confiscation of the book, ”the prosecutor’s office announced.
Barakov points out that the most shocking thing for him was the release of Peter on bail of BGN 2,000.
“The next big surprise was when I learned that they saw Marinashki driving only a day after he left the detention center. I doubted it until I saw it with my own eyes, “said the father. After making a fuss in the media, the prosecutor’s office ordered that Peter’s book be confiscated.
Barakov’s lawyer has lodged a complaint with former Interior Minister Hristo Terziiski against the actions of the Stamboliiski police officer in question, who tested Marinashki immediately after the crash and reported a negative drug test. In the same complaint, she stated that there were 12 cameras at Kadievo’s gas station. Investigators had seized the recordings from 11, and the one looking at the fatal tree did not ask for the tape. The owner of the site was told that it was of poor quality, so they did not need it.
“How come the videos from the other devices are good, but not from the 12th camera, even though the weather was dry. There was perfect visibility “, the defender is puzzled.
She clarified that Foreign Minister Hristo Terziiski had sent her complaint to the prosecutor’s office.
Petar Marinashki also filed a signal there against Todor Barakov. The young man complained that the man posted details of the investigation on his personal profile on Facebook and social networks.
Marinashki’s lawyer, Yordan Davchev, who is a former head of the Plovdiv investigation, is adamant that Toshko’s father is

However, the state prosecution ruled that there was no evidence of any pre-trial proceedings against Barakov.
“Everyone has the right to express their personal opinion. Todor did not spread any secret, but shared his thoughts with a father who lost his only child, “said lawyer Nikolova. She described Marinashki’s behavior as rude after his release on bail.
Barakov Sr. admits that relations with the driver’s family have deteriorated. Before the melee, they were even friends.

“The complaint was filed when I was in Paris. How can I intimidate them from there? ”
“We do not deny that the result of the accident is severe, the misfortune is great, but we will express our position in the courtroom,” said Marinashki’s lawyer Yordan Davchev. Defender said the drug outcome would also be challenged in the case. He would make further requests, but declined to comment before the trial.
