A drug-trafficking gang in Mykonos was dismantled – 2024-09-21 09:23:19

The Mykonos Police Sub-Directorate in collaboration with a special police unit of the Attica Security Directorate proceeded to dismantle a criminal group, whose members were storing and trafficking cannabis and cocaine in Mykonos.

In a police operation, which took place yesterday morning, in Mykonos, 3 men, aged 48, 56 and 60 years old, were identified and arrested, of which 2 were members of the criminal group and a case file was filed against them – as the case may be – for criminal gang for aiding and abetting, violating drug laws, and for violating residency restrictions.

The planning and organization of the police operation was carried out by the Mykonos Police Sub-Directorate in collaboration with a Special Echelon of the Attica Security Directorate, while it was attended by police officers from the Mykonos Security and Foreigners Department, the Attica Security Directorate, Crime Prevention and Suppression Teams (O.P. K.E.), as well as a special dog K-9 accompanied by the Coast Guard – Hellenic Coast Guard.

According to ELAS, from the investigation and after appropriate utilization of information, it emerged that the 48-year-old and the 56-year-old, together with their unknown accomplices, at least seven months ago, formed a criminal group with continuous, structured and distinct roles and trafficked narcotic substances, cannabis and of cocaine, to residents and visitors of Mykonos, thereby obtaining an illegal financial benefit.

In particular, they trafficked quantities of cocaine for 100 euros per gram and quantities of cannabis for 20 euros per gram, in a closed circle of customers, who lived or visited the island of Mykonos.

How did they act?

A leading role in the criminal group was played by the 48-year-old, who, after procuring large quantities of cannabis and cocaine, stored them either in the 56-year-old’s house, or in special hiding places (cabinets) in isolated places near rural roads.

He then trafficked and delivered the narcotics to interested “customers” on a two-wheeled motorcycle owned by him, taking counter-surveillance measures, while receiving the pre-agreed sums of money in return.

In addition, the 48-year-old defendant had previously concerned the authorities for a drug case and restrictive conditions of residence had been imposed on him, which he violated, as it was determined that he resided at a different address than the one he owed under the restrictive conditions.

In searches carried out, physically and in homes, among others, the following were found and seized:

  • 3 plastic packages of raw cannabis with a gross weight of 3,317 grams, as well as 8 containers, which contained raw cannabis, with a net weight of 83 grams,
  • plastic packaging, containing an unknown substance, white in color, gross weight -24- grams,
  • 2 plastic and one metal cannabis grater,
  • 3 scales,
  • 3 telephone sets,
  • 2 mobile phones,
  • two-wheeled motorcycle and
  • the amount of -3,527.7- euros.

Finally, as pointed out in the relevant announcement: “The arrested are being taken to the competent prosecution authority, while the investigation continues both for the identification of their accomplices and for their possible participation in other similar criminal acts”.
