A driver from Montpellier, without a license and insurance, arrested after a 34 km chase

The facts took place this Thursday, May 5, around 6:45 p.m. The defendant, aged 26, will be referred this Saturday to the prosecution.

A good coordination between the information center of the national police and the operational center of the gendarmerie allowed the arrest of a 26-year-old Montpellier driver who multiplied traffic offenses, this Thursday, May 5 at the start of the evening.

Around 6:45 p.m., a crew from the specialized field brigade saw an old model Citroën C4 overtaking several vehicles at high speed at rue du Pont-de-Lavérune, crossing a continuous white line and forcing the oncoming motorists to swerve to avoid a collision.

Swerves between vehicles

The police decide to control him and come up to him. The driver looks down on them and decides to speed up and not obey their summons to stop. Despite the two-tone and flashing lights, nothing helps.

After slaloming through the streets of Montpellier, he takes rue des Grèzes where he almost hits two pedestrians. He then runs a red light, takes the avenue de la Liberté where he swerves between many vehicles.

Peaks at 180 km/h

Then he takes the National 109, towards Juvignac, driving at 130 or even 150 km/h before joining the A750, peaking at 180 km/h, taking reckless risks. At one point, he pretends to exit the freeway and then swerves to get back into his lane.

He repeated this dangerous manoeuvre, at the Saint-André-de-Sangonis exit, but there he lost control of his C4 and ended his race on an embankment, thus putting an end to… 34 km of chase . Despite the violence of the shock, the driver and his passenger are miraculously unscathed.

Referred this Saturday morning

Arrested by the national police, the driver was taken into custody where he explained that he had done so because he did not have a license and his car was uninsured!

He will be referred this Saturday morning to the prosecution where he will have to answer for the charges of driving a vehicle without a license or insurance and, above all, for refusing to comply in circumstances exposing others to the risk of death or infirmity.
