World history should no longer be taught in universities, says Putin’s ally.
YEGOR ALIEV / SPUTNIK / KREMLIN POOL
Sergei Naryshkin, head of the Russian Historical Society (RIO) and foreign intelligence service SVR, wants to stop teaching general world history in Russian universities.
According to the financial newspaper Vedomosti, which reports on the matter, Naryškin considers it essential that the teaching of world history be given up and students focus on Russian history in the future.
According to Naryshkin, who is known to be close to President Vladimir Putin, the history of other countries overloads students in fields that do not focus on history.
Naryshkin pointed out that world history should be taught only in those cases where it cannot be avoided.
The spymaster announced his position at the meeting of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science’s expert council aimed at developing history teaching.
Scientific director of the Institute of General History of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Chubaryan announced his support for Naryshkin’s proposal and said that general history studies in universities have already decreased significantly.
Propaganda
Iltalehti has previously reported on the systematic indoctrination of the Russian state, which permeates the entire society.
Putin and the Kremlin have reset both school lessons and history books after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
In Russian universities, history courses approved by the Kremlin’s propaganda machine started in the autumn of last year.
