A Dominican arrested in Boston accused of distributing fentanyl

The Boston Office of Enforcement and Deportation, in Massachusetts, United States, arrested the Dominican Luis Esmeraldo Rodríguez33 years old, accused of several crimes in the North American country and who had previously been deported to Dominican soil.

Rodríguez is accused of assault and battery on a member of his family, destruction of property, indecent exposure, vehicle theft, two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance and assault and injuries with a dangerous weapon.

The Dominican had previously been deported, so he was prosecuted again by the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, in September of this year.

According to the US immigration control portal, the US border patrol detained Rodríguez on November 23, 2014, after he entered the United States illegally near Laredo, Texas, without inspection, admission or parole by a United States immigration officer.

On January 16, 2015, ERO Batavia served Rodriguez with a notice to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge.

A Department of Justice immigration judge in Batavia, New York, granted Rodriguez an immigration bond on February 18, 2015.

On May 12, 2015, a Department of Justice immigration judge in Batavia ordered that Rodríguez be removed from the United States upon Dominican Republic.

The United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts indicted Rodriguez on one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute fentanyl and an additional count of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl. The court convicted Rodríguez of those charges on February 27, 2019 and sentenced to 30 months in prison.

ERO Philadelphia arrested Rodríguez on February 15, 2020, after his release from state prison and transferred him from the United States to the Dominican Republic on February 18, 2024.

Rodríguez illegally reentered the United States on an unknown date, in an unknown location, without inspection, admission or parole by a US immigration official.

Roxbury District Court arraigned Rodriguez on June 10 on charges of assault and battery on a household member, destruction of property, indecent exposure, vehicle theft, two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Later that day, ERO filed an immigration detainer against Rodriguez with the Suffolk County House of Corrections in Boston.

ERO Boston officers arrested Rodriguez on August 12 in Roxbury District Court and served him with a notice of intent/decision to reinstate a previous deportation order.

The United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts indicted Rodriguez on September 16 on one count of unlawful re-entry into the United States after deportation.
