Montreal, December 18, 2020. The statement of the architectural vision developed in collaboration with the community for the new Île-aux-Tourtes bridge is unveiled by the Government of Quebec.
The future Île-aux-Tourtes bridge will be a sustainable infrastructure with a distinct architecture that will focus on harmonious integration into the landscape, with a concern for respecting the quality of the surrounding natural environment. The architectural treatment and the improvements will help to improve the experience of the journey for users of the bridge and the perception of the infrastructure.
This statement will be at the heart of the reflections that will lead to the development of the final concept.
The Minister for Transport and Minister responsible for the Metropolis and the Montreal region, Mr.me Chantal Rouleau, underlined the particular and inspiring nature of the architectural consultation process.
It should be remembered that this participatory approach has been underway since 2019. After an online consultation and a discussion table, the Ministry set up, in 2020, an advisory committee specifically dedicated to architecture in order to benefit from the skills of experts. external. In the pursuit of activities relating to the architecture of the new bridge, citizens are invited to express themselves during the online public consultation which will be held from December 17, 2020 to January 18, 2021.

Highlights
- The Île ‑ aux ‑ Tourtes bridge is located in the axis of the Félix-Leclerc highway (highway 40) and connects the island of Montreal (village of Senneville) to the region of Montérégie (city of Vaudreuil-Dorion).
- 87,000 vehicles circulate there every day (2019 data).
- This bridge was put into service in 1965 and must now be rebuilt in order to ensure the sustainability of the interrive link.
- The chosen solution is a new bridge north of the current bridge, with three traffic lanes in each direction, a shoulder suitable for use by buses only and a multi-use path.
- The reconstruction project is subject to the environmental impact assessment and review procedure. The Ministry plans to publish the environmental impact study for the project in 2021.
