Buenos AiresFormer Argentine Vice President Cristina Fernández described the investigation into the attempted attack of which she was the victim in 2022 as a “total disaster” and maintained that the justice system never tried to find the masterminds behind the attack when she testified on Wednesday as a witness in the trial of three people accused of being the perpetrators.
“The masterminds and financiers are not here, despite all the evidence that was provided,” said the former president (2007-2015) and one of the most powerful political figures of the last two decades before the three judges of the court that is leading the judicial process.
Fernando Sabag Montiel and his ex-girlfriend Brenda Uliarte are accused of attempted murder and are accompanied in the dock by Nicolás Carrizo as a secondary participant. Sabag Montiel, who was the one who held the gun from which the shot did not come out, has confessed to being the author of the attack before the judges, while his ex-partner expressed inconsistencies and the third denied any involvement.
On September 1, 2022, Sabag Montiel pulled a gun on the head of the former Peronist leader, now 71 years old, in front of what was then her home in Buenos Aires, where hundreds of her followers had gathered to support her while a trial against her for alleged corruption was taking place. Uliarte was very close to the scene of the crime.
