12 residents escaped from the building and were able to return to their apartments shortly after midnight, because the flames did not spread any further thanks to the firefighters. Disaster prevention spokesperson Henrietta Csondor announced that the cause of the fire is being investigated. A total of 14 firefighters from Pétfürdő and Balatonfüzfő worked with four vehicles during the extinguishing. A large amount of household waste was piled up in the burned-out apartment, reports the veol.hu.
In a statement, the disaster management wrote,
A condominium apartment caught fire in Waldstein János Street in Várpalotá, where the fire was in the kitchen of the apartment on the second floor of a two-story building. Three square meters of paper and garbage burned, and the firemen brought the flames under control in a few minutes. The units took an elderly woman out of the apartment affected by the fire, but her life could no longer be saved.
The circumstances of the fire are clarified with a fire investigation procedure.
