A different mood without the crowd – a new cycle of concerts will start in Kalnciems quarter / Article / LSM.lv

Recognizable Latvian musicians will perform in the new concert cycle in Kalnciems quarter on Tuesday evenings, every time the audience is also greeted by a special guest – the patron of the evening.

The concerts will take place every Tuesday evening at 7.30 pm, from 7 July to September, and four concerts are already planned for the first month’s program.

Una Meiberga, the head of the Kalnciems Quarter cultural program, noted in the LTV program “Rīta Panorāma” – although various gathering restrictions are still in force and it is difficult to plan events in the future, “within one month we can plan our Tuesday evenings in Kalnciems Quarter.”

Meiberga explained that the organizers of the event wanted to change the course of the concerts: “From the usual 10 years with the wonderful events of Thursday evenings, we have changed a completely different mood with a concert without a crowd – maybe for those who were tired of the visited Kalnciems quarter. We now invite you to listen to music. ”

July program

July 7 – Xylem Trio

12 years ago in the Kalnciems quarter, the concert season began with the concert of brothers Petrauskas and Rihards Zaļupe in the garden, and also at the opening of this season on the evening of July 7, piano, saxophone and percussion rhythms will be performed by the Kalnciems quarter musicians’ association “Xylem trio”. Brothers Oskars and Raimonds Petrauski and Rihards Zaļupe, collectively known as the “Xylem trio”, offer a concert program “From Kanchel to Paul”. In the mood of summer music, you will be able to hear compositions from the latest “Xylem trio” album “Round Giya Kančeli”, as well as arrangements of well-known melodies from the music of Zigmars Liepiņš, Emīls Dārziņš, Raimonds Pauls and other authors.

July 14 – Vladislav Nastavshev

On the evening of July 14, director and musician Vladislavs Nastavševs will create a lyrical atmosphere in the Kalnciems quarter with his solo concert, performing songs from performances and original music with a message that makes time stop, listen and focus on self-reflection.

“Often the songs become a kind of emotional sketches for my future performances. Such as watercolor sketches,” says Vladislav Nastavshev.

During the concert, Nastavshev will reveal several of these sketches to the audience, as well as one with Sergei Uhanov’s poetry. Songs from Nastavshev’s latest performances at Mikhail Chekhov’s Riga Russian Theater will be performed – “Five Songs by Memory” with original works by the poet group “Orbit”, as well as several news items. The presence of Mikhail Kuzmin and Federico Garcia Lorca will also be felt.

July 21 – “Dagamba”

On the evening of July 21, musically intense and glorious members of the Latvian group “Dagamba” will perform on the stage of Kalnciems quarter with a musical program – classical music “Without electricity!”. Cellist Valters Pūce and pianist Dainis Tenis will offer an evening with classical and popular music hits on cello and piano. This time, with their concert program, the musicians return to the original source – the basics of classical music, offering works in an original sound more muted, acoustic and intimate, in order to create a cozy and melodically aesthetic atmosphere for the listeners.

July 28 – Latvian Voices

On the evening of July 28 in Kalnciems quarter “Latvian Voices” a cappella The concert will feature world-renowned and popular Latvian music melodies – “Falcon Running in the Sky” (“New Moon”), “What Will Happen” (“Marana”), “Hallelujah” (Leonards Koens) and others. An integral part of the concert is also the arrangements made by the members of the Latvian folk music melody group, which this time will sound in the mood of jazz and pop music. The program will be complemented by percussion played by singers – cachons.
