After having largely re-emphasized the concept of What If…? thanks to its series Disney+, Marvel also intends to serve again a few ladles in comics next year, even if it means declining the concept where we do not expect it. Where it doesn’t make too much sense either, by the way. This is the case for example of the title What If : Miles Morales, who must imagine at each number if Miles had had another mentor than Spider-Man/Peter Parker, and therefore took another alias and another costume. First stage : Captain America.
Captain Spider ou Spider America ?
The principle of What If : Miles Morales is to transform the young urban hero into a geek fan of almost all the superheroes of the House of Ideas, while keeping the idea, a priori, the spider bite that started it all. In the first issue, he will therefore learn to use his powers by drawing inspiration from Captain America, which allows him to also adapt his costume – blessed bread for artists in search of concept arts.
The number tells us about a search for chara design through Iban Coello, who reinvents Miles Morales with a Weaver costume in the colors of Cap ‘- and the fact of keeping the spider mask is moreover much more successful than what is presented to us in regular cover or variant, here under the trait of Kaare Andrews. To see if the story will succeed in convincing, which we doubt a little, beyond the simple artifice of swamp presented by this version of What If…?. We hope to be wrong, obviously – see you next March for the verdict.
