In response to a question about the reason for the arrest, a police officer told AFP that one of the two “did not comply with our measures”, asking the reporter to address the question to local police authorities for more details.
The police officers pulled other people aside and asked them to delete the photos from their phones.
Protesters gathered in this Shanghai neighborhood on Sunday to protest China’s strict “zero Covid” policy nearly three years ago, and to demand more political freedoms.
There have been clashes with the security forces and many people have been arrested, according to AFP correspondents.
Shanghai police have so far refused to answer repeated questions about the number of arrests over the past two days.
This morning the streets closed on Sunday evening were reopened with less police presence, but blue blocks were erected along the sidewalks to prevent any new gatherings.
And on Sunday, crowds of protesters responded to calls on social media, expressing their anger particularly at Beijing, Shanghai and Wuhan, which surprised security forces in rallies unprecedented since the pro-democracy movement in 1989.
