Next week’s presidential election in Lebanon will enter a “crucial” phase, as the most in-depth discussions are expected to concern names, with the “Free Patriotic Movement” announcing it will decide on the issue of names on Tuesday for the “consensual” person it will support.
And after the “Free Patriotic Movement” refused to nominate any candidates, the “OTV” channel which spoke on its behalf quoted “Strong Lebanon Bloc” deputy member Asaad Dergham, that the bloc will meet on Tuesday and it will solve the problem of the name and the consensus person that the block will be able to vote in the session that should be convened next Thursday by the speaker of the parliament Nabih Berri.
On the other hand, the opposition has activated its contacts to obtain a majority in the next session. The head of the “Lebanese Forces” party, Samir Geagea, met MP Nemat Avram and discussed the presidential elections with him. Avram said: “A common space will emerge in the coming weeks, hoping that we will get to the election of a new president with an integrated basket, whose goal is to rebuild the state of the institutions.”
For his part, the representative Ashraf Rifi, head of the “Renewal Bloc”, considered that “(Hezbollah) is no longer as strong as it once was to control the country as it was. Today it does not dare to announce the name of its candidate, because it he is sure he can lead him to the presidency.” .
