The Gay Pride parade in the city of Wilton Manors, in the US state of Florida, was canceled after a truck ran over the public, killed one attendee and injured another.
The local police published on their social networks that, because of the “tragic event”, the parade was canceled, although they have remarked that “there is no danger to the public.”
The truck driver has declared to the police that his foot had jammed between the accelerator pedal and the brake pedal, which has caused him to lose control of the vehicle, CBS Miami reported.
However, the security forces have not made any official statement at the moment on whether there are indications that the accident was intentional.
Despite this, the mayor of the neighboring city of Fort Lauderdale, Dean Trantalis, told the WSVN television network that the driver acted as if he were part of the parade because he was on the route of the march when the authorities demanded that he leave the place.
Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried, who was at the event, said on her Twitter account that the driver of the vehicle is now in police custody, and expressed her condolences for what happened.
Along the same lines, Florida representative in the House of Representatives Ted Deutch used this same social network to express being “devastated by the horror” seen in the parade. I’m so sorry, Wilton Manors. I’m very sorry, friends, “he posted.
