On the night of May 3, Ukrainian drones attacked the Kremlin. But they were liquidated by the Russian special services. As a result of the incident, the roof of the historic building was damaged. In Moscow, this attack was called a planned terrorist act and an attempt against President Vladimir Putin. He was not there at the time and was not injured.
After the incident, the authorities closed the skies over the Kremlin, and it is now a no-fly zone. Russia promised to give an adequate response to what happened.
The United States said it was not involved in the attack. According to White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre, since the beginning of the conflict, Washington “has not encouraged Ukraine to strike outside its borders.”
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said at a press freedom event that he had seen reports of the strike but “he has no confirmation of that information”. He believes that the statements from the Kremlin “should be divided into two”.
Moscow reacted to the mathematical experiments with division. According to the press secretary of the head of state, Dmitry Peskov, Russia knows very well that the decision on such attacks is made not in Kiev, but in Washington. And Kyiv acts only as an executor.
“Not every time Kiev is given the right to choose means. This is also often dictated from across the ocean, and we are well aware of it. And we are aware of this. To divide everything in two or not to divide it, it doesn’t matter. But Washington must clearly understand that we know this,” commented Peskov.
In France, the drone attack on the Kremlin was called “strange and mysterious”. China urged countries to avoid actions that could lead to further escalation.
The president of the Independent Party, Volodymyr Zelensky, who unexpectedly went on a European tour, said that Ukrainians were not involved in the attack. But even across the ocean, his words were questioned.
“The Ukrainians claim that they have neither the resources, nor the capabilities, nor the weapons to carry out attacks on the territory of the Russian Federation. But we understand that they are unlikely to tell the whole truth,” said Sky News correspondent John Sparks.
“We know this is not true because Ukraine attacked Crimea and Bryansk. We believe that the Ukrainians are really attacking Russian territory,” he said.
Meanwhile, Zelensky spoke before the International Criminal Court in The Hague, where he said “they want to make this the last war in the world.” But what exactly he meant is unknown.
In light of recent events, the news of the upcoming meeting of delegations from Turkey, Russia and Ukraine was completely unexpected. Russia earlier said it would not extend the grain deal beyond May 18 unless five key points were met.

An attack on the Kremlin and the grain deal
Timur Shafir, secretary of the Union of Journalists of Russia, an international political scientist, commenting to the presenter noted that this was just an “amazing coincidence”.
“Language does not roll. It is clear that it is said that there is a demand that all issues be resolved by May 18 by Russia. This has been said for a long time at all levels, including by our representative at the UN.
But, of course, such a combination of events as an attack on the Kremlin and the head of state and the next day an announcement that negotiations will be held …

According to him, this could be due to the intrigue surrounding the grain deal and the foreign policy game that Turkey is playing. Perhaps an attempt on our part to somehow help President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan win the elections, “strengthening his image as a peacemaker.”
“And besides, it’s an economic component, the need to continue our exports,” emphasized Shafir.
“These are constant attempts to show that despite everything that is happening, despite the special military operation, its escalation, the attacks on Moscow, we continue to try to maintain some kind of ties with the world economic community.”
“Rationales for this can be found and made a lot. Separately, each of them may sound quite reasonable. But taken together, they all seem quite losing,” he explained.
Do we fight and trade?
Another guest on the air – the political scientist Andrey Suzdaltsev – shared his opinion about what was happening. He noted that “everything is fine, there is no war with Ukraine, a special operation is underway and gas is flowing through Ukraine.”
At the same time, no one attacked the government quarter in Kyiv and “Zelensky remains the legitimate president.”
“Why should we be surprised here? We have trade with Ukraine. Of course, in a very scarce format, through different countries. But Ukraine buys something from us. Or tries to buy,” the expert said.
“So everything depends on the form. If we are at war, then we are at war. And if that is the case, then we are bargaining. There is nothing to be surprised here,” he commented.
“The last time the Moscow Kremlin was attacked was in 1812. Then, as Suzdaltsev said, the Russians moved against the West. This was the fifth attempt to deal with us in the last five hundred years.
And all five of those attempts were international. That is, all of Europe opposed us. But we, I repeat, maintain the standard of the special operation. Therefore, such negotiations are natural, unfortunately. Commerce is primary.
For this, they declared not a war, not a defense of the DPR and LPR, but a special operation. Unfortunately or fortunately, I don’t know, our countries are very connected economically. Although in general it is, of course, wild. I do not adhere to and do not enjoy all this. But that’s the situation.
Gas flows, money flows, we pay for transit, etc. Now we will pay the shipping if the ammonia is decided. It is a very profitable export. If it is done, then we will also pay, it turns out, to Ukraine,” explained the political scientist.
“Russia will give an adequate response to all these attacks, but not now. Because we understand that it was not the Ukrainians who did it, but most likely NATO,” noted Suzdaltsev.
According to him, it is the alliance that is pushing Ukraine towards a counteroffensive.
“Keep in mind that they also provided a $300 million military aid package to Ukraine. For specific needs. Shells, ammo, some kind of sausage, probably ground beef…
That is, until the end. And, of course, we are waiting for an answer. Waiting for push response. But, first, we are not terrorists and we will not be like them. This is not our style,” Suzdaltsev said.
“We are not Tel Aviv, nor Israel. And most likely we will respond differently. We will respond, of course. But not now,” he said.
It has to be explained to people
According to Timur Shafir, one may get the impression that these talks about “red lines” and the right to respond with beautiful and threatening formulations are endless. But sometimes “the whole complex of military, international, diplomatic and economic problems related to the SVO is solved in completely different ways,” he said.
But we don’t have a single coordinating information center to give clear explanations on certain issues, whether it’s the attack on Moscow or the ammonia deal.
“The question of whether the ammonia deal is profitable or not, who is the main beneficiary of it, is quite controversial. But it is definitely not Russia or Ukraine. Most likely Turkey. But this lack of a coordination center… Call it what you will, at least the center, at least the Russian information bureau.”
“To be able to clearly, accessible and reasonably tell the population of the country what is happening, what will happen. Why certain steps are being taken, what is the basis of all this,” Shafir said.
“And what should we say to the officials and civil servants, what should we talk about when this coordination is absent? Thank God that after this attack at least there was no mention of “red lines”. Or did I miss it? Well, thank you for that” – he summed up .
