A deadly blow to cinemas. Almost all new blockbusters go to HBO

At first, only Wonder Woman 1984 was supposed to go online, which would not be such a problem for cinemas, but the company has now decided to stream all films in 2021.

It will be the sci-fi Dune, Matrix 4, then a prequel to the Sopranos (famous American series), the thriller The Little Things, remakes of Tom and Jerry and Godzilla vs. Kong, Mortal Kombat and or Angelina Jolie’s drama Those Who Wish Me Dead.

This move will certainly strengthen HBO Max in the fight against Netflix, which has a very strong position on the Internet. Warner is also competing with Disney Plus. New movies will be on HBO Max for only 31 days. Then they will continue to play in cinemas as long as they are interested.

WarnerMedia chief Ann Sarnoff said it was a unique one-year plan that should not continue in the coming years.

“We live in unprecedented times for creative solutions, including this new initiative for Warner Bros. Pictures Group, ”she said.

“No one wants us more than we want the films to return to the big screen. We know that the new content is giving theaters life, but we need to balance this with the fact that most theaters in the United States are likely to operate with limited capacity in 2021. ”

So far, HBO Max only operates in America and it might seem that European countries may not be interested, but the opposite is true. HBO Max Global chief Andy Forssell has already announced that the streaming service will start doing business in Europe in 2021.
