This old castle is located on the banks of the River Dee, in the Aberdeenshire area and is the private home of the British monarchs in Scotland. In June 1852, Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s husband, bought it Balmoral from the trustees of the deceased Earl of Fife and since then the estate has been in the possession of the royal family.

This file photo was taken on August 6, 1948, when King George VI, his wife Queen Elizabeth and their two daughters, Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret, arrived in Balmoral for the traditional summer vacation. As you can see, the current monarch, King Charles III (born only in 1948), like his grandfather George VI, likes to wear kilts. We also see how beautiful George’s wife, Queen Elizabeth, and two daughters are.
