The Minister of Education, Yoav Kish, announced today (Wednesday) that the former member of the Knesset, Edna Soloder (deceased), who passed away yesterday at the age of 94, is the bride of the Israel Lifetime Achievement Award for the year 2018. Minister Kish announced in a telephone conversation to Edna’s sister, Tami, since Edna as mentioned passed away and will be buried this afternoon.

The award committee met yesterday and decided on Edna’s winning and passed an orderly decision to the minister who heard at the same time about her passing. The minister and the members of the committee expressed their sorrow over her passing and the fact that she did not receive the recognition she received after her death.
In its reasoning, the award committee stated that Ms. Edna Soloder is a symbol of female leadership and reflects the face of Israeli society in her extraordinary life path. The committee also noted that she was one of the leaders of the kibbutz movement and as part of her many years of parliamentary activity, she worked a lot for the strengthening of the periphery, the preservation of nature and heritage, the encouragement of agriculture and settlement and was a model for unity and connection in the people.

Edna stood out very much in her activities to promote social issues and reduce social gaps. Along with her extensive social activities on social issues and dealing with the problems of children in need, she began working to promote the field of adoption, and was appointed as a member of the advisory committee for international adoption, after losing her only daughter, who was an adopted daughter.
