The renowned Czech screenwriter Ivana Hokrov has recently presented her latest script, “Kocoviny,” to director and producer Jiří Vejdlek. After reading the two-page script late at night, Vejdlek immediately recognized its potential and contacted Hokrov the next morning, expressing his enthusiasm for the project. “Kocoviny” is a purely Czech-themed film that aims to remind audiences of the awkward moments from their youth: first loves, first drinks, and first mistakes – everything associated with dancing.
The film revolves around two protagonists who were once successful dance partners, even continuing their dance routines in their marriage, with the wife following her husband’s lead. However, she has grown tired of listening to men, especially when her former admirer and free-spirited sister enter the picture.
“I used to think I was immensely talented, but during the training sessions, I realized that I lack the necessary skills. So, I will have to work hard to catch up with the dance preparations,” said the lead actress.
Even her on-screen husband, played by Railov, claims that she is critical of herself. ”During the training, I was forced to confront reality. One can feel a certain way, but then comes the moment of truth when it needs to be performed. And those are cruel moments,” he shared.
The film is set in the Central Bohemian Region, particularly in Poděbrady and Prague. Alongside the main cast, Zuzana Norisová, Albína Stanková, Vasil Fridrich, and Anna Marie Fuková, the creators promise elegance, humor, relatability, and a story that will resonate with three generations.
“Kocoviny” is expected to be a delightful and nostalgic dance film that will entertain audiences with its Czech charm and relatable experiences.
