The Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Provincial Council of A Coruña promote the “Cycling Mobility Master Plan“. A project with an investment of around 9 million euros and which provides for the execution of cycling paths in about twenty municipalities.
This plan is divided into three projects. The first of them is the Vía Verde, which will transform the old train route between Santiago de Compostela and Cerceda into a pedestrian and cycling path, connecting the municipalities of Oroso, Ordes, Cerceda and Tordoia, as Formoso explained.
The second is the Abegondo-Cecebre cycling path, which will mean the extension of the current metropolitan bike path, which ends at the Cecebre reservoir, to the municipalities of Bergondo, Abegondo, Carral and Betanzos through 29.8 kilometers of new cycling path . With the green path of Santiago and the connection of A Coruña with this greenway, the two cities would be connected in an alternative mobility route.
The third project is the access to the lighthouses in the province of A Coruña, a total of 26 in operation. The objective of this road network is to connect these buildings through pedestrian and bicycle paths with their nearest towns.
Of the total budgeted the Government of Spain will contribute 7.2 million euros through the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE). The Provincial Council has also requested aid for the development of the path between A Coruña and Cerceda, so that the total investment in these projects would amount to 11 million euros.
Both the president of the A Coruña Provincial Council and the Government delegate have highlighted the collaboration of both administrations in this matter. “It is the way of working, co-governing and coordinating ourselves,” the Government delegate explained.
