A double cut in a fiber optic line has caused a drop in the services of various operators, whose customers have not been able to make calls and have lost the Internet connection on their mobile phones. The fault occurred in an infrastructure shared by Endesa and Red Eléctrica in the area of Almería and Murcia, sources from various companies have reported. It has been fixed around 1:45 p.m.
According to user reports to portals such as Downdetector, specialized in analyzing the falls of digital services, the failures have been felt by customers of Orange, Vodafone, Movistar, Jazztel, Simyo and Lowi. They have started around 9.45 am this Friday. The sources consulted have assured elDiario.es that the problem would be solved in “a few minutes”, but the incident has been active for four hours.
Several operators have pointed out to this medium that the main problem has occurred in the Orange network, whose customers have been the most affected. Orange shares fiber networks with Vodafone in various parts of Spain, including the area of Almería and Murcia, with which this has been the second most affected company. The failures in the service of the others have been caused by the collapse of the network derived from the fall of the two mentioned.
Orange sources have subsequently confirmed the problems. “An outage outside our network is affecting the service in the Murcia and Almería area. Work is underway to solve it, we hope it will be up shortly, ”the company explained to this medium. At 1:45 p.m., it reported the recovery of normal service activity.
The affectation that the clients of the rest of the companies have noticed may derive from having tried to establish a connection with the users of Orange and Vodafone, something that has not been possible during the incident. From Movistar, for example, they explain that their networks have not suffered any type of affectation, so the problems that their clients have noticed are derived from the problems suffered by the operators of the people they wanted to contact.
The infrastructure of the operators’ fiber network is installed in a circular way, so the failures have also spread to both the Alicante and Granada areas. Internet connections in homes and businesses as well as landline telephone lines would not have been affected, according to the data provided by the operators.
