When you don’t have enough to eat, you may not only hear your stomach hungry, but also feel a strong headache coming.
A hunger headache occurs when your blood sugar starts to drop below normal, and your empty stomach can also lead to migraine headaches for some people, according to the “health line” site on human health.
What are the symptoms of a hunger headache?
Tension headaches often have symptoms, which include the following:
Dull pain
It feels as if there is a narrow ribbon wrapped around your head
Feeling of pressure on your forehead or the sides of your head
Feeling of tension in your neck and shoulders
When your blood sugar level drops, you may notice other symptoms as well, including:
Dizziness, fatigue, stomach pain
– feeling cold
– Ahtazaz
These additional symptoms tend to appear gradually and may start with a mild headache, but as you delay eating, you start to notice other symptoms.
Hunger headache symptoms disappear within 30 minutes of eating.
What are the reasons for this?
Hunger-related headaches may be caused by a lack of food or drink, or both, and some of the more common causes include:
– Drought:
If you don’t have enough to drink, the thin layers of tissue in your brain can begin to tighten and squeeze pain receptors, and this side effect is a common cause of another type of headache.
Lack of caffeine.
Caffeine is a stimulant that your body is used to, especially if you drink three or four cups a day.
If you haven’t taken caffeine in a while, the blood vessels in your brain can enlarge, which increases blood flow to the brain and causes a headache.
Skipping meals:
Calories in food are a measure of energy, and your body needs a constant source of energy in the form of food as fuel.
If you haven’t eaten anything in a while, your blood sugar levels can drop, and in response to this, your body releases hormones that indicate you are hungry, and these same hormones may increase blood pressure and tighten blood vessels in your body, leading to a headache.
Additionally, you may be more likely to have a hunger headache if you already have headaches or migraines on a regular basis.
How are hunger headaches treated?
You can usually relieve a hunger headache by drinking water.
If caffeine withdrawal is the cause, a cup of tea or coffee may help.
Keep in mind that it may take 15-30 minutes for your body to adjust and rebuild your blood sugar stores.
And if you feel your blood sugar is really low or you have a history of hypoglycemia, you may need to eat something high in sugar, such as fruit juice or soda. Just be sure to follow up with some protein later.
