A 43-year-old Cuban migrant drowned on the beach in the Mexican city of Tijuana, on the border with San Diego, where this Friday thousands of people are still stranded waiting to cross into the United States.
The deceased, named José Ramón, died while trying to reach San Diego by swimming from the coast of Tijuana, but died due to the low temperatures of the sea water.
José Ramón was accompanied by his friend Joandi Sabrina, 31, who suffered hypothermia and was treated by paramedics from the Mexican Red Cross.
Later, Sabrina was transferred to the General Hospital of Playas de Rosarito for prompt attention.
Both were rescued by lifeguards from the Tijuana Fire Department on Tuesday night, but José Ramón no longer had vital signs at the time of the intervention, so his body was taken to the Forensic Medical Service.
Currently thousands of migrants are stranded in the Mexican city of Tijuana, waiting for the border with the United States to be opened with a humanitarian asylum.
The surveillance by the police authorities was reinforced in the Playas de Tijuana area, as well as in the surroundings of the shelters.

The Mexican National Institute of Migration has detained more than 31,000 “irregular persons” so far this year, an increase of about 18% compared to the same period in 2020.
In the United States, the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) detained 100,441 undocumented persons in February, compared to 78,442 in January, an upward trend although not yet reached in May 2019, when the CBP apprehended 132,856 people and the then president President Donald Trump threatened Mexico with the imposition of tariffs.
