The scandal in Greece with the wiretapping of a journalist and an opposition leader is growing. The event led to the resignation of senior officials, such as the head of the National Intelligence Service, Panagiotis Kontoleon, BNR reported.
A statement from Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is expected tomorrow.
The scandal with the wiretapping of the MEP and leader of the Socialists Nikos Androulakis is reaching the proportions of a political storm. The opposition demands that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis take personal responsibility and resign. An open session of the parliament is scheduled for tomorrow, with opposition MPs demanding that the prime minister give a complete list of the politicians and journalists being monitored.
Secretary of the Government Grigoris Dimitriadis resigned, as did the head of the National Intelligence Service.
According to a report citing government officials, Nikos Androulakis was wiretapped at the request of the services of two unnamed foreign countries.
MPs from the ruling Conservative Party said the Prime Minister had not been informed of the wiretapping of the Socialist leader. The government also wants full transparency on the case, said cabinet spokesman Yannis Economu.
