Éric Dupond-Moretti, Keeper of the Seals, Minister of Justice, announced on Monday January 23 the creation of three new branches of Agrasc (Agency for the management and recovery of seized and confiscated assets). Among the cities selected by these facilities, Nancy.
Promoting the confiscation of the property of criminals has become an objective for state services. It is in this sense that the Agrasc (Agency for the management and recovery of seized and confiscated assets) acts. It administratively manages seized assets such as vehicles, buildings, businesses, boats, etc.
“The deployment of this highly strategic public policy has been illustrated since 2020 by unprecedented results, multiplied in particular by the creation of four regional branches since 2021 in Marseille, Lyon, Rennes and Lille, which have made it possible to achieve more than 771 million euros in seized by the courts in 2022 (725 in 2021 and 592 in 2020)“explains the Ministry of Justice.
For Eric Dupond-Moretti, Keeper of the Seals, Minister of Justice, “Agrasc (1) is the armed wing of the State to seek compensation from offenders by hitting them in the wallet. Its effectiveness no longer needs to be demonstrated and the regional agencies that we are going to open in the spring of 2023 in the territories of Bordeaux, Nancy and Fort de France will make it possible to further intensify this dynamic, by further strengthening joint work and proximity with investigative and judicial services of the most important jurisdictions.“
The Ministry states that “the law of April 8, 2021 carried by the Keeper of the Seals extended the missions of Agrasc, by now allowing it to ensure throughout the territory and on court order, the provision of real estate whose the management is entrusted to it, for the benefit of certain associations – a device designed with a restorative logic in the service of victims or the most disadvantaged.“
Since its creation, Agrasc has notably enabled the confiscation of 168 buildings sold for an amount of 35.2 million (+31.3% vs 2021).
