A Créteil doctor violently attacked by a patient unhappy with his consultation

The patient, an agent from the city of Créteil (Val-de-Marne), wanted a work limitation. The doctor refused him because he felt that it was not justified. The man punched him hard in the face.

The swollen face, a broken nose, 2 stitches and 12 days of ITT: Yves Puech, general practitioner in Créteil was violently attacked by one of his patients.

“We found ourselves in the hallway in a face-to-face confrontation. He started screaming. I’m not one to be impressed, so I raised my voice to explain to him that he had to calm down. That he didn’t like it so much that he started, without warning, hitting me, taking me for a punching bag”he says.

After seeing his usual doctor, this agent who works in the green spaces of the city of Créteil, wanted a higher limitation than that which he had obtained. So he went to see Dr. Yves Puech.

“He claimed an additional limitation in respect of an accident at work due to tendinitis of the shoulder and for which my colleague who had received him a few days earlier had put a limitation of the load bearing at 5kg for 6 months. But he found that it was not enough and that the doctor had omitted to put a limitation on the use of vibrating devices, that is to say mowers, brushcutters, etc. He did not do so. because he didn’t think it was useful”continues Dr. Puech.

The doctor advises him to return to see his colleague because it is up to him to judge whether it is appropriate to attribute this limitation to him.

“This answer did not please this gentleman who started to get angry saying that I knew him and that I was showing bad faith by not granting him his limitation”says Mr. Puech.

After the assault that occurred on Friday January 28, the doctor went to the city police station to file a complaint. The attacker, known to the police, was arrested the same evening.

But the latter also filed a complaint, arguing that the doctor had hit him first. “I haven’t had time to deal any blows to him and besides, I have the aftermath of a motorbike accident that dates back 30 years. I still have 4 pins in my right elbow , I have a mobility that is not important. I will not risk losing this right arm, especially since I am right-handed”says Yves Puech.

The city agent will be tried at the end of May.
