A coup d’état of the Post Office on 21 June, goodbye to your savings

Poste Italiane is taking steps to put a hand on all those booklets that have not been moved for at least 10 years: the deadline to save them is next 21 June

Poste Italiane has taken steps to warn some customers that by 21 June it will pay off their postal books.

This measure will be implemented on the so-called “dormant“, Or those booklets with sums equal to or greater than 100 euros that the holder has not moved for 10 years or more. In the list there are also policies and checks. However, those booklets that are in the midst of operational procedures that prevent the displacement of the sums inside are not included among the dormant ones. The deactivation has already started since last March and if the owner does not respond to the communication within 180 days the passbook will automatically expire.

Poste, how not to lose the booklets

In the post offices the provincial list of all dormant booklets as of March 31st is available. The holders must give instructions at any post office and allow the registry of their booklet to be registered by 20 October. It should be noted that the money in the booklet can still be claimed at any time. At the moment, however, the precise modality is not yet clear.

It is possible that despite Italian post sent the warning, for whatever reason many people did not receive it. This is why it is useful to inform citizens of this provision, and the latter would do well to check their books, especially those of older relatives who may not have used them for some time.
