The house, with 190 square meters of living space, had already been renovated and was in excellent condition when Caroline Lossberg and her partner bought it a good two years ago. The fact that the previous owner had a passion for historical renovations was of benefit to the two: “He tore down the entire barn and left only the beams standing,” says Lossberg. 200-year-old French windows, historical fittings, a clinker facade and old plain roof tiles were also lovingly installed. Lossberg was therefore able to devote himself to the interior with a clear conscience.
Colourful accents and antique furniture
Lossberg worked with a colour consultant from Farrow & Ball In addition to a soft beige as the base color, strong wall colors and varnishes were also used, which set important accents and put you in a good mood. She is particularly proud of the furniture, because it includes heirlooms from the whole family. Even the pieces that they bought new are refurbished vintage furniture from a small family business from Austria. The family spends most of their time in the open kitchen with adjoining living and dining area. When the large doors and windows are open in summer, it seems as if the boundaries between the house and nature are blurring.

A relaxed retreat for the family
“Since we are not surrounded by food delivery services and numerous restaurants, we suddenly start again from scratch to cook and bake,” enthuses Lossberg, “we lose ourselves in gardening, get creative and do pottery. In summer there are numerous beautiful places to swim in the area, in autumn you can pick mushrooms in the forest, bake stick bread on the fire pit and in winter we sit in front of the fireplace and take long walks through the forest.” It is the calmness of the place that Lossberg and her family enjoy so much: “Sometimes you hear the horses from the farm opposite, the rooster from the village or the sound of a tractor driving past.” When everyday life in Berlin allows it, they come to Schorfheide as often as possible, on (long) weekends, during the holidays; Lossberg even comes out into the countryside for half a day’s break, because sometimes that feels like a short vacation, she says.
